School Consultation & Special Education Advocacy Services
Do you feel like your child's educational needs are not being met at school? As a parent, you may want to familiarize yourself with special education law and how it pertains to your child's education. However, navigating the complex world of special education can be daunting. That's where I come in. I can help families understand their rights and the special education evaluation process, as well as work with schools to ensure each student's needs are being met.
Eligibility for special education or school-based services requires specific criteria outlined by federal and state laws and regulations. The Colorado Department of Education's Special Education Office provides detailed information on this process.
As a special education consultant, I focus on helping kids and teenagers who struggle with emotional and learning disorders, ADHD, ASD, and other conditions. These students face particular challenges that are often overlooked or misunderstood by educators, healthcare professionals, family members, and friends, which can make it difficult for them to receive adequate support within the school system.
I offer a range of consultation services to assist families, including:
-
Helping families understand and advocate for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and/or 504 plans that meet their child's unique needs
-
Navigating the Special Education process
-
Attending special education meetings in schools
-
Observing children at school and offering recommendations
My goal as a special education advocate is to help parents navigate the complex world of special education, ensure effective communication with schools, and work with both parents and schools to meet the individual needs of each student, upholding their right to a "Free and Appropriate Education," or FAPE. Every child is unique, with their own personality, strengths, and challenges, and our public school system is not designed to fully meet the needs of neurodivergent students.
I have years of experience in providing support to families and students of all ages, from preschool to college, by creating and managing 504 plans and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for those who are eligible. If you need assistance in this area, please don't hesitate to reach out for a free consultation.
