About John Tzanos, Ph.D. - Licensed Psychologist

Welcome to My Practice!

John Tzanos, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist with a passion for helping teens, and adults, overcome various challenges. His expertise encompasses a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, OCD, academic and career transitions, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Choosing the right therapist is crucial for a successful therapy experience. My clients often mention that I establish a transparent, practical, and relaxed atmosphere, facilitating a natural flow in the therapy process. My approach is aligned with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which means we'll work on accepting things as they are, being mindful of the present, and taking steps that match your values. I use a mix of strategies to help you reach your goals, believing strongly in the power of therapy that's tailored to your values to make real changes in your life. I'm here to support you in making the changes you want, guiding you towards your goals and what matters most to you.

Originally from Greece, I moved to Colorado to earn my Ph.D. at the University of Northern Colorado, which forms the basis of my psychology license. My journey into psychology began during my undergraduate studies, where I interned at a psychiatric hospital in Athens, specializing in the treatment of personality, psychotic, and mood disorders, and collaborated with an NGO to aid children from diverse backgrounds who suffered from labor trafficking. These experiences, while part of my earlier educational journey, enriched my understanding and compassion, laying a foundation for my career.

Throughout my doctoral journey and thereafter, I have dedicated myself to providing a variety of services, including psychotherapy, counseling, mentoring, and psychological assessments. My passion lies in assisting individuals from diverse walks of life in overcoming obstacles and enhancing their well-being. I am also a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP), Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist, Certified Mental Health & Nutrition Clinical Specialist, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), certifications that complement my commitment in continuing professional growth and in offering specialized services to my clients.

In addition to therapeutic services, I serve as a court-ordered parenting coordinator (PCDM) and parental responsibilities evaluator (PRE). I also offer parent and special education consultation and advocacy, including support with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans.
