About John Tzanos, Ph.D. - Licensed Psychologist

Welcome to my practice!
John Tzanos, Ph.D is a licensed psychologist with expertise in helping children, teens, and adults navigate a range of challenges. He has particular experience in treating depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, trauma, relationship issues, school and college-related challenges and transitions, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Choosing a therapist is an important step, and making sure you're connected to the right person can affect your therapy experience. People who I’ve worked with say that I set a clear, practical, and relaxed tone and allow the therapy process to flow naturally. My approach to treatment is pragmatic. To this end, I use a synthesis of acceptance-based, psychodymanic, cognitive and behavioral psychotherapies and solution-focused strategies to help empower my clients to make the changes they want to see realized in their life. I believe that psychotherapy is most effective when clients work towards goals that they have set for themselves and find solutions that are in accordance with who they are, their personal values, and life goals.
Originally from Greece, Dr. Tzanos relocated to Colorado to pursue a Ph.D. at the University of Northern Colorado. Prior to his Ph.D studies, he completed a year-long internship at a psychiatric hospital in Athens Greece that specializes in treating patients with personality, psychotic, and mood disorders. He also worked with a non-governmental organization (NGO) that supports children of diverse ages, cultures, and ethnicities who were victims of labor trafficking. Throughout his doctoral studies and beyond, Dr. Tzanos has provided a range of services including psychotherapy, counseling, mentoring, and psychological assessments. He has worked at a university counseling center, several K-12 schools, and in private practice helping individuals from all walks of life navigate through challenging circumstances and develop skills to improve their well-being.
In addition to providing therapeutic services, Dr. Tzanos serves as a court-ordered parenting coordinator (PCDM) and parental responsibilities evaluator (PRE) and provides parent and special education consultation and advocacy services, including support with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans.
